Alternative Land Use Services (ALUS)

...
...

About

The ALUS program was originally introduced to Grey and Bruce Counties as a pilot project in 2012. Since then, Grey-Bruce has embraced the ALUS program and its principles, with very positive results for both agriculture producers and the community at large. ALUS Grey-Bruce is a partnership between ALUS Canada and the Grey Agriculture Services Center, a resource to which the local farm community looks for support and access to many types of agriculture programs. The ALUS Grey-Bruce program recognizes land stewardship and assists farmers in implementing and funding projects to produce ecosystem services. It recognizes the value of conserving ecologically sensitive parcels of marginal land while maintaining active agriculture on the more productive areas. Overall, ALUS aims to improve the biodiversity on the agricultural landscape. ALUS Grey-Bruce currently supports projects such as tree planting, wetland creation, buffer enhancement, exclusion fencing, grassland plantation/preservation, pollinator habitat and many more types of projects. Interest in ecological and biodiversity projects on working lands continues to grow in Grey and Bruce Counties, allowing ALUS Grey-Bruce to expand the number of acres enrolled in the program, the scope of the projects on these acres, and the benefits they produce for our communities.

Mature Kuvasz tend to stay within the boundaries taught or shown to them because of this loyalty. They usually only bark when necessary. They are white or ivory, medium build, agile, and very observant and intelligent. Their coat is self cleaning and low maintenance. For further information check out our website or Facebook page.

Liquid Feeds Inc.

...
...

About

LFI was started in the 1980's just outside of Guelph. Molasses in cow feed is something that dates from your grandparents. They may have bought a barrel of it from the Co-op and top dressed forage in the manger. The company’s two products consisted of a lick tank product and one applied in the silo when silage was being blown in or packed. We delivered with a couple of small trucks. A lot has changed in dairy since then. These changes include knowledge of ruminant nutrition, improved quality of forages, the process for mixing the ration, and understanding about the use of starch and sugar in the rumen. Based on these changes, while we still continue with the couple of products from our founding, the majority of our products now go directly into the TMR mixer or into the feed bowl in the milking robot. Cheryl and Ross Mitchell bought the business from Glen and Ruth Ann Gregory in 2015. Cheryl had been working there for 4 years when the opportunity to purchase arose. Ross is a retired CPA, having spent most of his working life in public accounting, before retiring and returning to the family farm to farm with his brother. Ross, a committed lifelong learner, understands that being an industry leader means knowing the business inside and out, and has dedicated the past six years to studying ruminant nutrition. Anton Reijmers may be a relative newcomer to Liquid Feeds Inc. (LFI), but he has been so impressed with the future and potential of the product line that he is now a co-owner, involved in all aspects of the business. He received his Bachelor of Science (BSc) with honors in Animal Biology at the University of Guelph, and has worked in nutrition for over 20 years. Helping customers take their operations from where they are to where they want to be is not only a goal for Anton, it’s the best part of his job and motivates him to drive forward with improved processes and an evolving product line. Seeing the significant impact LFI can have on the health, nutrition and overall performance of cows on the farm is tremendously rewarding for Anton, as is the company’s level of service and commitment to both its customers and its employees.

Third-party studies have shown LysteGro can completely replace commercial fertilizers and result in superior crop yields. The in-field aesthetics and cleanliness of the injection operation we employ are superior to surface application methods. National Farmers Union - Grey Local 344

...

About

NFU-O farmers think things should be done a little differently. We work toward progressive agricultural policy that sustains family farmers. We also recognize that the definition of “family” may have changed over the years, but that’s fine with us–we’re all family at the NFU-O, because working together to get the job done is what family does. Together, we can produce healthy and safe food through environmentally sustainable farm practices, and we can shape rural communities people want to live in. Operating on local, provincial, national, and international levels, the National Farmers Union is invested in you and your farm. As a growing organization made up of farmers just like you, we stand up together for farm policy that supports farmers–you guessed it–just like you. While many organizations talk the talk, the NFU-O walks the walk. Like any good agricultural non-profit, we have a board of directors that oversee the direction and activities of our organization. Like any great agricultural non-profit, our board is comprised of famers from small and medium sized farms cultivating a diversity of commodities and farm products. They know what matters to our members all too well, because it’s what matters to them, too. Not only do we have a diversity of farm types represented, we also have a diversity of demographics within our board and our leadership positions. From the get go (did we mention we were founded in 1969?), women and young farmers have always had seats at our table, and their input has always been valued. Now more than ever, the need for a diversity in agricultural leadership is growing and we pride ourselves on being the Accredited Farm Organization in Ontario that truly represents who’s farming today and who will be farming tomorrow.

About

Feeding the Future – is our reason for being. It inspires us every day and gives what we do meaning and urgency. It is centred around the reality that our global population is growing rapidly. By 2050, nearly 10 billion people will inhabit the Earth – and we will need to produce 70% more food to feed them, without depleting the planet. Add to these mouths the growing number of their four-legged friends that also need to be fed. This is an enormous challenge that we share across the feed-to-food chain, and we are committed to playing our part. Together with our parent company, Nutreco, and our sister division Skretting, we believe we can drive a transformation in how our industry operates. We can guide milk, egg and meat farmers towards a circular agriculture system that uses land and resources more sustainably - helping feed the growing population and at the same time building trust between people in our farming communities and our cities. With a presence in all stages of the value chain – including operations focused on animal nutrition, sustainable animal production, processing and distribution – we bring unique insights and reliable experience to this challenge. The Shur-Gain brand of products consist of premium complete feeds, concentrates, premixes and farm minerals for livestock and poultry using high quality ingredients and supported by research and development and innovation. They are backed by our Nutrace® quality standards.
